We believe in supporting children’s development by following your child’s interests and learning through play. Offering lots of varied activities to help build confidence and independence.
A mixed approach of adult modelling, child led and observing their peers leads to a balanced learning environment.
We provide a free flow system where your child can access inside and outside and explore the wider community by visits into the local forest area and the village community.
We work closely with parents as they are the experts on their children, forming great bonds with our families.

Curriculum
At Mayfield Pre-School we firmly believe that children learn best when they feel happy, safe and nurtured in their surroundings. Â This is why when your child begins with us, we first work on their Personal, Social and Emotional well-being.

Our supportive key people will get to know your child during their first term with us, what their key interests are and the types of learning that they enjoy. Â We then plan from your child's interests to enhance their development, through fun and inviting learning opportunities, all of which will be shared with you.

Play based, hands-on learning, is the approach we take at our Pre-School, gleaning what children know through skilled conversation and questions during the natural course of their activity. Â We do this in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework which sets out the 'Areas of Learning and Development' that make up the skills, knowledge and experiences to help your child grow in their learning.

Parents as Partners
We believe that education is a three-way partnership between the child, parent and teacher, and that sound communication is key to success in the Early Years Foundation Stage. Â It is important that you feel involved in the education of your child. Â We understand that starting pre-school can be an anxious time for parents, as well as children, and it is our aim to keep you as informed as we can on your child's learning so that we can work with you to enhance their early experiences and opportunities.

We aim to do this in the following ways:
- Through Key Person communication at drop off and pick up.
- Settling in sessions and tailored transition to preschool sessions.
- Updates through Tapestry
- Welcoming parents and families into Preschool through events and community celebrations. Â We appreciate the diverse world we live in and welcome family members in to share about their occupation or family life, read a story to our children or to simply join us to play! We also welcome all parents to our regular Committee meetings and AGM in October, or to join the Committee themselves.
- We use a secure, online learning journal called Tapestry to report on your child's learning regularly.
Â
The impact of us working in partnership will be seen through your child's enjoyment in learning:
- We will see a growth in their confidence and self-esteem as individuals as they see us communicate together.
- Our shared interest in your child's development will present different perspectives and expertise.
- Your child will feel happy and positive about themselves, and nurtured within the preschool environment - seen through their interaction.
- As our mutual respect and understanding grows, so will your child's.
Know that we will work with you on everything, from helping your little one grow in confidence to potty training when the time is right...
